The Conference

From 5th to 8th September 2010, the Department of Economic and Social Psychology of the University of Cologne is going to organize the joint conference of the International Association for Research in Economic Psychology (IAREP) and the Society for the Advancement of Behavioral Economics (SABE).

Together, the organizations IAREP and SABE have formed the International Confederation for the Advancement of Behavioral Economics and Economic Psychology (ICABEEP) which aims at fostering the dialogue between economics and psychology. Especially in times of economic change, as we are facing them today, such interdisciplinary approaches, provide valuable information to master the socioeconomic challenges lying in front of us.

The University

The host institution, the Department of Economic and Social Psychology, is one of the few German-speaking organizations which explicitly understands itself as a bridging unit between economics and psychology. The organizing committee therefore rejoices over the opportunity of hosting this scientifically important conference in Cologne.

Indeed, the host university, the University of Cologne, has a long tradition in economic research. It was initially founded in 1388. Its refoundation in 1919 started with the incorporation of the city - financed School of Commerce, which nowadays forms the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences. With over 42.000 students the University of Cologne today is one of the largest German colleges.
